Dear WIGOS community,
We are pleased to announce that version 1.3.1 of the WDQMS webtool was launched yesterday, Tuesday 30 March 2021. In this version, the monitoring of surface and upper-air land observations of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) networks is complete. The surface land component based on GCOS Surface Network (GSN) has been added to the system in addition to the upper-air component based on the GCOS Upper-Air Network (GUAN) implemented in the previous release of the webtool. The surface component has two monitoring categories, data availability and data completeness. Both categories rely on data collected from the GCOS monitoring centres. The availability category is obtained by checking the collected monthly CLIMAT messages against the list of stations affiliated to the GSN and registered in OSCAR/Surface. The completeness is obtained from the information provided on the number of days of the month missing for some observed variables.
This new release also brings a new feature to the download option that has been requested by WDQMS webtool users, i.e., complement the station identification with information on the ISO country code. Therefore, the field ‘country code’ (three-letter country code) has been included as an additional column in the CSV files downloaded from the map.
