The target audience for our resource contribution is extremely broad; the Introduction to Meteorology course this resource is taken from is aimed at all Bureau of Meteorology staff, including graduate meteorologists at the start of the diplomas, as well as stakeholders from the emergency management sector and primary industries and members of the general public.

In this discussion forum I would love to hear suggestions for (or examples of) how to contextualise meteorological content for a diverse range of participants with a very broad range of scientific understanding/skills.

Hi Bonnie,

At COMET we have used three strategies for creating online content for diverse audiences using Articulate Storyline. The first is using diagnostic pre-tests to direct learners only to areas of the lesson that they need more practice. The second is to create multiple paths through the content (easy or challenging) depending on learner preferences. The third is to use the automatic translation import tool in Storyline to quickly publish lessons into other languages.

A learner can take the pre-test and then receive recommendations on which sections of the lesson to work on. When selecting a section the learners can decide between two levels of difficulty (Tell me a story or Give me a challenge). While the content is not about science, this approach can be easily implemented with scientific content as well.
