Online content delivery with Articulate 360

Articulate 360 offers built-in adaptation to multiple devices and a number of ready-made assets that can easily be used to quickly create an online course.

The current utilisation of Articulate in our resource submission is relatively basic. For anyone with experience using Articulate: how could we utilise advanced Articulate features such as storyline to enhance the interactivity of the course and hence the engagement of participants?

Hi Bonnie,

At COMET we have had some success using Storyline. Here's a few recent lessons that use it:

I've found that Storyline is great for providing customized feedback and recreating communication interactions. For example, in the Smoke Forecasting and Communication lesson, we built forecasting scenarios with a variety of custom feedbacks and branching scenarios that recreate phone calls, video calls, instant messaging, and compiling social media posts.

Would love to know what you think of these and what others have built in Storyline.

Hi All -- I was part of a team that used Storyline to create this online interactive guidebook for NASA on best practices in applied sciences applications: Earth Science Applications Guidebook. We are currently working on interactive course for NASA ARSET using Storyline, again on best practices in Earth science applications.  Learners will select a story and follow a character along their experience. The first module will be launched in late November - I'll be happy to share that as soon as it's available.  We've had a great response to Storyline as a tool for engaging and communicating target audiences. A key to success, I think, is having a team member very strong in both graphic design and technical skills - that's helped us maximize Storyline's capabilities in a visually appealing way.          This page has four clickable images of scientists conducting field research.

Thanks for sharing the guidebook Erin! It has a great interface and nice visual design. What is the screen size for the pages? I like the fact that they take the full width of the browser window.

What is the level of accessibility for screen readers? In my work, I find that interfaces with a lot of elements become a challenge for screen readers. What is your experience?

Thanks,
Tsvet

Hi there

I am also using Storyline (and Rise) quite regularly, be it for creating online learning modules for the EUMETCAL community or for our internal training at MeteoSwiss.
I can share with you a short module on polar stratospheric and noctilucent clouds. It will be part of a series of short online learning modules on optical phenomena, which will be completed with another module on electrical phenomena. These modules can be used for the initial training of new forecasters / observers.
The module was developed during the EUMETCAL hackathon in April 2023.
You can find it here: https://360.articulate.com/review/content/9f2c7804-b0c9-4632-bd76-79b741940c54/review

Hi Bonnie
I am just watching the recording of your presentation and I came up with an idea for improvement. Instead of setting up a whole module with Storyline, which uses a lot more time and skills, you could just start with thinking of some more complex activities (for example drag and drop activities, more complex questions, ...), create those activities in Storyline and then just add these activities to a rise module.
That way you still have all the nice benefits of Rise (templates, all the preset design settings and so on) but still can benefit of the more complex activities from Storyline.
As Vesa mentioned during the meeting, we are having these coaching sessions on the 30th of November (Articulate Rise) and on the 7th of December (Storyline). Contact me or Tsvet in case you are interested to join!

Hi Fabienne, Do you have any details you could share on the Rise and Storyline coaching sessions?

I am really interested in developing my skills in using those applications.

thankyou

Hi Ross and everyone else :)

Here's the text from the e-mail when we announced these webinars:

"Articulate 360 is a software package that supports the trainers to build appealing and interactive online training modules.
On the 30th of November and the 7th of December our Instructional Designers Fabienne and Tsvet will organise an Articulate Rise and an Articulate Storyline coaching session. With Articulate Rise, you can design visually stunning e-learning modules with a minimum of effort. Articulate Storyline is an e-learning authoring tool that allows you to create very tailored, interactive and engaging online courses, simulations, quizzes and other learning content. Both sessions will be highly interactive and will help you, as a trainer, get started using one of (or both) these tools or to get to the next level while using them.
The Articulate Rise session will take place on the 30th November at 13.00 UTC. Do you want to create engaging online learning modules that look appealing without having a lot of resources and experience? Then come and join us for an interactive coaching session on creating simple but still engaging learning experiences.

The Articulate Storyline session will take place on the 7th of December at 13.00 UTC. Do you want to learn how to create interactive activities and take your e-learning projects to the next level? Then come and join us at the Articulate Storyline session!"

If you are interested in joining any of these, then please write an email to info@eumetcal.eu and we will send you the webex invitation.

Hi Fabienne,

Thanks for offering this workshop about this pervasive tool. I have only dabbled in looking at how it works, similar is some ways to previous systems.

Do participants need to own a copy of Storyline and/or Rise to be able to take part?  -- Thanks

Hi Pat

You're right, I didn't mention that part:
Yes, you will need an account, but you can also create a test account (valid for 30 days) before the session.
That's the reason, we are doing these two webinars within such a short time period.

For the first webinar with rise, you only need the account, for the second webinar on Storyline, you will need to have the desktop version installed.
I hope this helps, and it would be really nice to welcome some of you!
