GBON WDQMS monotoring

Indonesia has registered 56 stations in GBON, based on reports from stations, most of them have sent hourly observation data for 24 hours, such as stations Malikussaleh Lhokseumawe (0-20000-0-96009) and  Kualanamu (0-20000-0-96035), unfortunately, we see in GBON  WDQMS monitoring that the availability of surface observation data is only 8 (DWD),  4(NCEP)  8(JMA)  and 8(ECMWF).

I'm curious as, to why the monitoring from NWP center data doesn't match my expectations, it should be 24.

Dear Iqbal,

At ECMWF, only 3-hourly TAC/BUFR SYNOPs are available from the GTS (cccc WIIX), matching the schedule defined in OSCAR ( eg  https://oscar.wmo.int/surface/#/search/station/stationReportDetails/0-20000-0-96009 )
It would be really good to be able to receive hourly data from Indonesia. Therefore, I would suggest you check GTS bulletin distribution with the relevant RTH (Melbourne?).
Kind regards,

dear Iqbal

as a response to your request, you should apply the changes (reporting interval and Time) to all variables. for the case of the station LHOKSEUMAWE/MALIKUSSALEH (Indonesia)          0-20000-0-96009, there are a lot of inconsistencies within the metadata introduced in OSCAR as illustrated in the figures herewith attached. please use, for all variables,  the same reporting interval (for the same station and for the same variable you are using 3H and 1H) and the same Time (opening hours, for the same station you are using 00:00 to 23:59 and 00:00 to 15:59 and 00:00 to 18:59).

best regards

I have changed the metadata for those stations based on your suggestion, unfortunately, the data received in the NPW center is still unchanged. I have confirmed to stations, they send data hourly data for 24 hours

Dear Iqbal,

The two issues are unrelated. One thing is to change the metadata in OSCAR/Surface to have consistency between variables, as suggested by Rabia. The other is to investigate the reason why the hourly reports aren't being distributed in the GTS by contacting the appropriate RTH, which is probably Melbourne. The reason your hourly reports aren't showing up on GTS needs to be understood. This is a telecom issue, in my opinion.
I hope this makes things clearer.

Dear colleagues!

I would like to add my opinion on this situation using the example of Russia. I noticed that several stations in the Chukotka region of Russia are normally delivered to the Japanese center, but they are not in the German center. This suggests that the GISC of Japan and the GISC of Germany do not exchange their messages with each other. Or they have different algorithms for decoding telegrams, as a result of which in one center they are decoded normally, but in another they are rejected. Something similar exists between North America and Asia.

Best wishes,

Evgenii Viazilov

Dear Cristina

I think you are correct Cristina. Checking the Bureau's CMSS system I can see the following incoming messages for 96009 LHOKSEUMAWE/MALIKUSSALEH . I'll raise it with our team.

Dear Carl Monnik,

Thanks very much for the response, I just gave 2 stations(0-20000-0-96009 and 0-20000-0-96035), actually 56 stations were already assigned as GBON, they have sent hourly data, unfortunately, the data can not be received by NPW center completely

I just wanted to close off this thread by mentioning that the hourly synoptic data is flowing through to the GTS. One minor issue with the header is being resolved.
Refer to the image below for one station.

Hi Karl,

Thank you very much for helping to sort out this issue. It is really good to see the hourly data made available on the GTS. However, I noticed that yesterday (28th Nov), the 18UTC period defaulted again to 3 hours in most of the stations (see the image below for station 0-20000-0-96933). I hope it's just a temporary drop. I'll check again tomorrow to see if the problem persists.

Thanks,

Cristina
