Dear All,
Please accept this updated Call for Contributions that provides additional important background information on the WCM initiative for clarification on the exploratory status of the WCM.
This is a request for inputs from the WMO training community to assess current availability of training material that could support the implementation plan of the WMO Coordination Mechanism (WCM).
As stipulated by Resolution 14 from CG-18, the WCM is a proposed initiative intended to improve coordination between WMO Members and the humanitarian community (including UN organizations) in early action planning and response to extreme weather and climate events that either create situations demanding humanitarian actions, or that impact ongoing humanitarian actions. As requested by CG-18, a draft of the WCM Implementation Plan is currently being developed. It will then be presented to the SERCOM Technical Commission in the fall of 2022 and thereafter to CG-19 in 2023 for approval.
The WMO Disaster Risk Reduction and Public Weather Services Branch has commissioned the assessment of training requirements and offerings that could support the implementation of the WMO Coordination Mechanism (WCM).
In order to assess if there are available training that can support the implementation of this initiative, I am requesting for your inputs in the form of
a) information and links to existing training or information sources, or
b) descriptions of in-person or online learning events or workshops that you organize or have organized that might serve as models for others (these could be short, 100-word descriptions or links to articles used elsewhere).
Resources that you submit could be either (a) those developed by your institution or (b) resources developed by others that you have found to be valuable in your work. They would be linked to the learning needs or competencies listed at the bottom of this request.
We would need contributions by 1 May to incorporate them in a Training proposal being developed for the initiative. I apologize for the short notice.
When submitting, please use the attached short Resource Submission Form.
Your inputs would help to identify the current state of training in these areas, demonstrate good practices, provide valuable resources to guide Members and partners in implementing the initiative, if approved, and reveal gaps that need to be addressed in future training. A collection of existing resources and description of training activities is crucial to the effective implementation of the WCM.
Thanks for your ongoing support to WMO Members and its partners.
