The Joint CALMet XVI - CONECT 3 Conference is bringing together the global meteorological and hydrological education and training community to explore the theme “Future-Proofing Meteorological Training: Bridging Collaboration, Experience, and Innovation.”
During the first three days, participants will share knowledge, best practices, and emerging strategies across three focus areas: collaboration, experience-based learning, and innovation in digital education.
The final two days (27 and 28 November 2025) will be dedicated to the Third plenary meeting of the Consortium of WMO Education and Training Collaborating Partners (CONECT-3), which will focus on strengthening coordination and sustainability in capacity development efforts. -
During the Conference week, from Monday 24th to Friday 28th November 2025, the activities will be available to participants, both online, hybrid and in -person in Florence. Because participants will be attending the conference from different parts of the world, the synchronous live interactions will take place according to a schedule which contemplates three time zones: Eastern, Central Europe/Florence and Western. There will also be plenty of opportunities for asynchronous interactions, including the poster exhibition.
💬 Participating in discussions:
There is a Forum for each of the 3 themes. The authors of the Conference abstracts will start a thread in their respective theme Forums to discuss their contributions with you. Please keep the forum discussions focused by responding directly to the posts on the presentation/topic you are referring to (just Reply--do not start a new discussion topic if you are not the contributor).
🖥️ Attending the live sessions
For the live sessions we will be using different conferencing systems kindly provided by Members of the CALMet - CONECT Community. Our sessions will use Zoom Meeting and Microsoft Teams environments. The links to these sessions you will find in the conference environment on the Information for Synchronous Sessions page for each Thematic Group or simply click HERE
Please find below the Conference timetable:

If you need more information and have questions, please contact organizers@calmet.org. We are very much looking forward to a highly interactive experience and meeting you online! 🌍
Warm regards,
The Organizing Committee 👥

Welcome to the poster gallery of the Joint CALMet XVI – CONECT 3 Conference!
This collection highlights the creativity and expertise of educators, trainers, and capacity development professionals from around the world.
The posters reflect this year’s conference themes — Collaboration, Experience, and Innovation — showcasing initiatives, research, and practices that advance learning and cooperation in meteorology, hydrology, and related sciences. We invite you to explore, exchange ideas, and be inspired by our global community’s contributions.
Note that each ePoster has its own chat area. When you click the "chat icon" you will then be able to view any chat messages that have been posted to the ePoster. If you want to post a message then you should click on the button to sign-in. You can choose to sign-in via a range of social media routes or by making your own Learning Toolbox account. You will then be able to write and send your own message. Please note these messages are public. Anyone viewing the ePoster will be able to see all the messages.

🤝 Topic: Strengthening Global Collaboration for Sustainable Training and Capacity Development
This day will focus on how partnerships and initiatives, such as the WMO Global Campus have supported and enhanced training and capacity development efforts across our community. We invite participants to share experiences and stories that illustrate:
- successful collaborations in delivering training and education activities tailored to local or regional audiences;
- lessons learned through the co-development and adaptation of shared training resources.
In addition to these reflections, we aim to foster discussions around:
- the availability and re(use) of shared education and training (E&T) resources;
- pressing training needs at the regional level.
The insights gathered during these sessions will not only inspire the global community but also provide valuable input for further discussions at the CONECT 3 meeting later in the week.
-
Forum to ask questions, exchange ideas, and continue conversations related to Day 1 sessions before or after live presentations and workshops.
-
Joint training webinar taylored by International Ice Charting Working Group (IICWG), to discuss about experience exchange, best practices and technologies.

Thanks to the 25 people who joined our design session, helping us refine a a beta version of EOTEC's Earth observations capacity needs assessment guidance! If you missed it, there's still time to contribute - keep reading!
For background, EOTEC DevNet and partners have developed an online tool that synthesizes global experience on approaches to Earth observation (EO) capacity building needs assessments. The guidance outlines five foundational steps of an assessment and curates practical tools, examples, and tips.
Currently in beta, the guidance is designed as a living document that will evolve with community contributions. This “creative lab” offered a hands-on environment where participants will work together and in small groups to review the guidance, offer feedback, share their own experience, and prototype ideas. Visit the session page (linked above) for details on the session and ideas on how you can share your point of view!

💡 Topic: Bridging Knowledge and Practice: Strengthening Learning Through Observation and Experience
This day will explore how trainers can support learners in visualizing atmospheric processes, developing spatial thinking and learning from real-world experiences. We invite you to share your experiences, lesson-learned and good practices in:
- helping your community to stay complaint with the requirements outlined in BIP-M, BIP-MT and the WMO Competency Frameworks;
- preserving local and institutional knowledge as experienced meteorologist retire;
- supporting on-the-job learning through cycles of action and reflection;
- designing authentic face-to-face and online training activities that promote active learning such as: shadowing experiences colleagues, using simulators, case-based learning, Jupiter notebooks or any other available tools or methods.
We also want to explore what is currently available in our training toolboxes to create meaningful and effective learning experiences?
Your stories, practical insights, and lessons learned will help others strengthen the bridge between theory and practice, contributing to learning that remains grounded, dynamic, and impactful.

🚀 Topic: Embracing AI and emerging technologies for learning and assessment (Innovation)
On this day, we explore how AI and other digital innovations can transform meteorological and hydrological training, enhancing both learning and assessment practices. Key questions for discussion include:
- How can AI and emerging technologies enrich (digital) training through interactive and immersive experiences?
- What AI tools are currently available to support the development of authentic, engaging face-to-face and online training activities?
- Which AI tools are already being used within our community and what are your experiences with them? What is working well and where are the limitations?
We invite you to share your experiences, insights, and lessons learned as we collectively navigate how to harness innovation while safeguarding the integrity and trust of our training practices.-
