Important Times and Dates

[Note: All modules may be completed either online through the links on the site or offline using the modules given in the DVD provided to the participants. However the Quizzes must be completed online through the links on the course website. Please post questions for each module in the Course forum on the site. The questions posted by the participant will be answered by a group of experts. The questions raised, and the answers/discussions theron are available/visible to all.]

Pre-Course Work:

As a part of pre-course activity for this course, the participants will complete their profile.

The International Participants who have not completed the basic couse will also complete the following two modules and the quizzes thereon...

1.  Understanding the Hydrologic Cycle( International edition- time required is about  2.0 hrs ) 

This module enables the participants to understand the movement of water over the surface and below the surface as well.

2. Runoff Processes ( International Edition -  2.0 hrs ) 

The Runoff Processes module  explains how runoff occurs, both at the surface and below the surface.

Week 1 and 2 - Hydraulics (19 March - 1 April)

- Orientation Session (Live webinar - optional, Slides/text will be available on site.) will be conducted online on Monday 19th March 2018 @  1100-1200 IST  ( 0530 UTC )

This live webinar session will present a brief overview of the course and the activities involved. The live session will give you a chance to meet your instructors and other students online. You will have a chance to ask any questions you might have. You will be provided with a link to connect to this webinar. For the participants who may not be able to join the live webinar due to bandwidth constraints etc. can watch the Course Introduction video given in the DVD.

There are three modules for week 1 as follows....

- Dams & Dams Failure - Part 1  : Terminology & Open channel Hydraulics  (1.5 –2.0 hrs)
- Dams & Dams Failure concepts (1.5 –2.0 hrs)
- Dams & Dams Failure - Part 2 : St Venent equations, Modelling, case study (2 –2.5 hrs)


Week 3 - Modeling (2 - 8 April)

- Distributed Hydrologic Models for Flow Forecasts - Part 1  (1–1.5 hrs)
- Distributed Hydrologic Models for Flow Forecasts - Part 2  (2–2.5 hrs) 
- An Introduction to Ensemble Streamflow Prediction  (1.5 –2.0 hrs)


Week 4 - Climate Variability and Remote Sensing (9 - 15 April)

- Climate and Water Resources Management, Part 1: Climate Variability and Change  (1.0 –1.5 hrs);
- Microwave Remote Sensing: Clouds, Precipitation, and Water Vapor ( 1.0 - 1.5 hrs )
- Microwave Remote Sensing: Land and Ocean Surface Applications ( 1.0 - 1.5 hrs )


Week 5 - Forecasting Techniques, Verification, and Hydrometeorology (16 - 22 April)

Flood Forecasting Techniques (NWA)
- Introduction to verification of Hydrologic Forecasts  (2.5 –3.0 hrs);

One of the following:
- Introduction to Tropical Meteorology : Chapter 2: Tropical Remote Sensing Applications
- Introduction to Tropical Meteorology : Chapter 3  Global Circulation ( 2 hrs )
- Introduction to Tropical Meteorology : Chapter 4  Tropical Variability ( 2 hrs)
- Introduction to Tropical Meteorology : Chapter 5 Distribution of Moisture & Precipitation (2–2.5 hrs)


Week 6 - Project and Module Work Time (23 - 29 April)

Completing all the required & optional modules & Starting with Final writing Assignment


Week 7 - Project and Module Work Time (30 April - 4 May)

Submission of Final writing Assignment - Tuesday, 1 May
