In this presentation, I’ll give you a clear and engaging overview of the WMO Integrated Processing and Prediction System (WIPPS), including how it is evolving with AI technologies.

First, we’ll look at what WIPPS is, where to access its products, and how the WIPPS Designated Centres work together—and with NMHSs—to provide high-quality forecast products and support their effective use.

Next, I’ll introduce WIPPS’ ongoing AI initiatives, including the development of a new WIPPS strategy including AI-based Earth System Prediction (AI-ESP), addressing challenges and issues and Guidelines for WMO Members in the use of AI-based ESP. I’ll also share practical examples from our AI-focused pilot projects.

Finally, I’ll present our work on developing the Skills and Knowledge Framework for interpreting WIPPS products in weather forecasting—an important step in strengthening support for operational forecasters. This effort will lead to the launch of the WIPPS Learning Portal on the ETRP Moodle platform.

By the end, you’ll have a clear picture of WIPPS, its AI evolution, and how we are advancing capacity development for the future.
