0900 - 0930 UTC (30') 1000 - 1030 CET Competency-Based Development of Climate Education Courses in Ukraine: The ClimEd Project (Inna Khomenko -- Odesa Mechnikov Univ)

The presentation “Competency-Based Development of Climate Education Courses in Ukraine: The ClimEd Project” will demonstrate how a consortium of Ukrainian and European universities, working within the framework of the international ClimEd Project, is jointly modernizing climate education through the development and application of a unified competency-based framework.

The ClimEd Project (Multilevel Local, Nation- and Regionwide Education and Training in Climate Services, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation) is an international initiative aimed at transforming climate-related education and professional training across Ukraine and the wider region. It brings together leading universities and experts from Finland, Estonia, Spain, and Ukraine to design competency-based, modular, and digitally enhanced courses that develop essential skills in climate services, climate-risk assessment, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development.

Through this coordinated effort, ClimEd is creating a modern and flexible learning ecosystem aligned with European educational standards and the needs of climate-dependent sectors. The project integrates blended learning technologies, practical case-based tasks, and sector-specific content to better prepare students, practitioners, and decision-makers for the challenges posed by a changing climate and Ukraine’s post-war socio-economic transformation.
