Lucia Curto - LVRossby: a simple numeric model to teaching Rossby Waves in Southern Hemisphere
During our teaching experience in courses on Waves in the Atmosphere at the University of Buenos Aires, we have identified some difficulties in explaining —for teachers—, and assimilating —for students— the concept of Rossby waves dispersion.
We have developed a simple numerical model for teaching Rossby waves. This model not only helps teachers in explaining dispersion of these atmospheric waves, but also students have an interactive tool to help them understand the physics of these waves.
We will show a presentation with the LVRossby —and their different versions. The presentation will show the visualizing of the model, how students interact with it, and some of the results they obtain from the model that will be analyzed later. Also we will show some of our interpretations of results as professors.
