Improving needs assessment: Design session today!

Dear CALMET-CONECT friends:

Many of us regularly undertake some form of needs assessment, whether through a formal process or in our daily tasks, as we plan training and create materials.  What resources do you need to support that work?

EOTEC DevNet and community of practice volunteers have developed an online guidance tool that synthesizes global experience on approaches to Earth observation (EO) capacity building needs assessments. The guidance outlines five foundational steps of an assessment and curates practical tools, examples, and tips. Currently in beta, the guidance is designed as a living document that will evolve with community contributions.

Today, November 24, during the Western time zone program, we are hosting a design lab on the guidance. Participants will work together and in small groups to review the guidance, offer feedback, share their own experience, and prototype ideas. PLEASE JOIN US!

If you are not able to join but have time to look at the guidance and share your thoughts, we would be very appreciative.  In particular, we would like to know:

  • What works well in this guidance? For example, what felt easy to navigate or understand? What parts were especially helpful, well-explained or relevant to your work?
  • What doesn’t work well? For example, where did you feel lost or wish for a clearer layout or flow? Where is more explanation, examples, or simpler wording needed?
  • What would make this guidance more valuable/relevant/usable for people doing needs assessments? For example, what other functionality or content would you like to see, e.g., additional content, tools, examples, or templates
  • Do you have something to contribute to the guidance?

Thanks for getting involved - we appreciate any contributions you might have.  Respond here or share them at secretariat@eotecdev.net

Hope to see you later today!

All the best from the EOTEC DevNet Secretariat.
