This is an information on the changes that have been applied to stations metadata in OSCAR/Surface for migrating their affiliations into RBON, that took place on 07.06.2022.

This has been done in accordance to RBON Technical Regulations (Manual on WIGOS WMO-No. 1160, paragraph 3.2.3) and the decisions of the WMO Commission on Infrastructure (INFCOM) and Regional Associations, regarding the plan for the transition of the former RBSN (Regional Basic Synoptic Network), RBCN (Regional Basic Climatological Network) and AntON (Antarctic Observing Network) into RBON (Regional Basic Observing Network).

INFCOM also decided to update the WIGOS metadata code tables (http://codes.wmo.int/wmdr), based on which the stations currently affiliated, in OSCAR/Surface, with RBSN, RBCN and AntON will automatically become affiliated with RBON. You can follow the News page in OSCAR/Surface.

Please note that an official circulation letter will be sent soon to all WMO Members providing more details and actions related to the transition plan to the RBON.

Thanks to Meteoswiss for their hard work on this matter.

For the WIGOS team,

Luis
