Weather, Water and Climate Services for Energy

Description

This self-directed online course combines lecture-style presentations, reading materials, and real-world case studies to provide foundational knowledge and practical insights into how weather, water, and climate services (W&CS) support the energy sector’s transition to net zero emissions.

Over approximately 4.5 hours, participants progress through five core modules at their own pace, learning about the role of W&CS in global energy and climate policy (e.g., Paris Agreement, SDGs), key concepts in weather/climate modelling and energy forecasting, and co-production frameworks for collaboration between service providers and energy users.

The course also presents business models, practical applications, and WMO’s role in the energy transition. It is intended for energy policymakers, company professionals, and planners seeking to integrate weather and climate information into decision-making; meteorologists and NMHS staff aiming to understand energy sector needs; and researchers, students, and practitioners in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and globally interested in applying W&CS for energy.
