Description
Description
In this
lesson, learners will use grid-point and area probabilities to determine
whether to issue a heavy precipitation warning for three areas.
Expected Learning Outcomes
- Decide whether to issue a precipitation warning based on grid-point and area probability maps
- Interpret and communicate information from ensemble products
- Explain the difference between grid-point and area probability in both high and low resolution ensembles
- Determine why information is lost when going from probabilistic forecasts to categorical warning
- Explain why it is not appropriate to verify a probabilistic forecast based on a single observation
Target Audience
Forecasters
and all others who want to learn more on how to use ensemble prediction
systems to determine and communicate risks to their users.
