Description: When the pandemic hit, our virtual monthly weather and climate Regional Focus Group Discussions thrived. It had not always been this way, there were many years when we struggled to attract new participants. When we offered virtual new topic sessions and workshops, the increased attendance surprised us. We are now in the post-pandemic phase and attendance for formal and informal virtual training remains high, maybe not as high as during the peak of the pandemic, although definitely higher than pre-pandemic. Why is this so, particularly for the informal sessions? In this story, we reflect on the content, the people, the growth of the WMO-CGMS VLab RFG over time, the importance of a welcoming environment, and plenty of patience. It will highlight small steps we took to improve training impact and potential ways we can demonstrate the impact.

Workshop (1 hr - 1,25 hr)
EOTEC DevNet’s ongoing network analysis seeks to answer the question: Which organizations and individuals are key connectors in the global capacity building network? Using the preliminary analysis as a springboard for discussion, this interactive session will engage audience members in dialogue on practical, implementable ideas for increasing collaboration of the EO capacity building network. After sharing a few of the visualizations, presenters will ask participants to 1) analyze the gaps, 2) offer examples (based on their experience) of success factors for and challenges to collaboration with other partners, and 3) suggest ideas for improving the connections, especially through virtual collaboration. Goal: A read-out of practical, implementable ideas for increasing collaboration of the EO capacity building network, with analysis of perceived gaps, lessons learned, and recommendations for the future.
-
Workshop (45 min - 2 hr)
Come to this sessions to experience the efficiency of a hackathon. A small team of experts and designers can quickly create activities and prototype them whether the activities are for synchronous or asynchronous instruction. You will receive a learning objective for an e-learning lesson on the science of rainbows and prepare an activity for it.
-
Workshop (1 hr)
This session will discuss various knowledge-sharing practices that foster collaborative learning in modern organizations. Join us and contribute to this issue by sharing your best practices and lessons learned.
-
Workshop (1,5 hr)
In this session, we will take a deep dive into CALMet community's current state and envision its future, scrutinize the issues and impediments impeding our path to growth, and identify answers.
