In order to combat, identify, and study diseases as well as to create and test new medications, monoclonal antibodies, or mAbs, are extensively employed in biomedical research and medicine. However, because of the extreme pain and suffering required, the mouse ascites method of producing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs)—such as Hybridoma—is severely constrained and has prompted grave concerns about animal welfare. Thankfully, recombinant antibodies (rAb) have emerged as a substitute for animal-based monoclonal antibodies. There is no need for animals at all in the production of rAb, which is made in a lab using antibody genes (screened by phage display) or extracted from human cells. Nowadays, rAb offer intrinsic benefits over their classic counterparts obtained from animals and can fulfill all purposes for which mAbs are used.
