A polysaccharide capsule is a protective outer layer composed of long chains of sugar molecules (polysaccharides) that surrounds the cell wall of certain bacteria and fungi. This capsule plays a key role in virulence and immune evasion for pathogens, helping them resist phagocytosis and avoid detection by the host's immune system.
