Course Overview
Recognizing the critical role of calibration and measurement uncertainty in meteorological measurements, and responding to the increasing demand from the Members for supporting them to improve their capacities for calibrating the measuring instruments, WMO has developed this self-paced Training Course on Calibration to address gaps in competencies and capacity across WMO Members.
Building upon the "Competency framework for personnel performing instrument calibrations" as outlined in the Guide to Instruments and Methods of Observation, Volume V – Quality Assurance and Management of Observing Systems (WMO-No. 8) and "Compendium of WMO Competency Frameworks (WMO-No. 1209), this course provides comprehensive online training for staff involved in meteorological instrument calibration within WMO Members.
The course offers participants essential knowledge on the fundamentals of metrology, calibration of meteorological instruments for basic parameters, and calibration procedures, including a demonstration of uncertainty budget calculation.
♠ The main objectives
- To provide an online training material on calibration for WMO Members
- To contribute to improving the skills of the staff dealing with calibration and measurements
- To provide resources that is accessible anytime for self-learning
- To increase the understanding of metrology in meteorology and promote the dissemination of knowledge
♠ The primary audience
- Staff of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs)
- Staff working in WMO Regional Instrument Centres (RICs)
- Instrument Specialists responsible for managing and performing instrument calibration and maintenance
- Experts interested in calibration of the meteorological instruments and calibration laboratories.
