Description: This third session of the CONECT Webinar Series will highlight how two education and training institutions are putting the revised Basic Instruction Package for Meteorologists (BIP-M) into action. Dr Mick Pope will present the approach taken by the Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre in Australia, while Dr Peter Inness and Prof Chris Holloway from the University of Reading (UK) will describe how they aligned their redesigned undergraduate and post-graduate programmes with BIP-M requirements in the context of the RMet accreditation. Presenters will share practical insights, institutional challenges, and lessons learned in aligning national qualifications with the revised BIP-M.

About the Presenters:
Dr Mick Pope
Dr Mick Pope is the Manager of the Graduate Meteorologist Program at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, where he has worked for over 25 years. He contributed to the 2023 revision of the BIP-M. Dr Pope serves on the CALMet Working Group and is Co-Vice Chair of the CONECT Management Group, where he also leads the working group focused on promoting the sharing of training resources under the WMO Global Campus initiative.
Dr Peter Inness
Pete Inness is a lecturer in the Meteorology Department at the University of Reading, UK, where he is the Programme Director for undergraduate degree courses in Meteorology and Climate. Prior to joining the University in 1999 he worked for the UK Met Office in a number of different roles, including teaching on the Met Office College Forecaster Training programme. Pete is a member of the Royal Meteorological Society’s Accreditation Board which oversees the Society’s Registered and Chartered Meteorologist (RMet and CMet) schemes. This Board is also responsible for mapping UK University taught degrees onto the BIP-M criteria so that they can be approved as meeting the academic requirements for CMet and RMet accreditation.
Professor Chris Holloway
Professor Chris Holloway is the Programme Director for the four MSc programmes in the Meteorology Department at the University of Reading. He has recently led the restructuring of these MSc programmes, including successfully seeking approval for three of them from the Royal Meteorological Society as a first step towards becoming professionally accredited as either a Registered Meteorologist (RMet) or Chartered Meteorologist (CMet). This process included work on aligning the programmes with the revised BIP-M.
