The METAREA coordinators support the Worldwide Met-Ocean Information and Warning Service (WWMIWS) while the NAVAREA coordinators support the Worldwide Navigation Warning Service. Both provide forecast and warning products to mariners via SafetyNet and Navtex as part of the WWMIWS. METAREA coordinators work with regional NMHSs to provide marine forecast products to the WWMIWS and to assure that those products adhere to the WMO guidelines for marine services.

Here are interviews with the coordinators from New Zealand. They oversee MetArea XIV, a large area of the central and south Pacific Ocean.
