WMO OSCAR Surface - what does the future hold?

Hello all

The UK Met Office has started bulk uploading Station data for sites that were missing from WMO OSCAR Surface. Moving forward, the suggestion is to use a json format. Will this still use the WIGOS Metadata Standard in the link below or will a replacement be put together.

Hi Stuart: the current OSCAR Surface system is undergoing a renewal that will utilize the WIGOS Metadata Standard version 2 (WMDR2), as well as a new / distributed / modernized architecture and API services.

More information will be made available as part of the forthcoming INFCOM-4 session (23-27 November 2026) on next steps for the future solution/renewal.
