WDQMS development opportunity

We could really use the WDQMS system if it were expanded with the following features:

The station data sheet should show the station coordinates and altitude.

It should be possible to search for a station by name and station number.

It should be possible to search even if the station does not have a registered WSI identifier, only a TSI.

It should be possible to search even if the station is not listed in Oscar (unfortunately, there are many such stations).

It should be possible to see the data source for a station, what bulletin header or other source the data comes from.

It should be possible to request a station list by country, which includes name, identifier (WSI, TSI), coordinates, altitude.

Dear George,

thank you for your feedback. With respect to your concrete points:

The file download already contains latitude and longitude. Elevation could be added in a future release as an optional field.

The search function (on top of the map) allows to search by name, WSI and TSI. (if this does not work for you, can you share an example?)

Stations not in OSCAR are shown as yellow dots and are included in the search results. Since only limited information is available about these stations it is not possible to search by name (since it is unknown), but search by identifier works.

While the NWP WDQMS module does not provide the data source (this is a limitation of using model output from NWP centers), the WDQMS transition monitoring gives some information about the data source (GTS or WIS2, TAC or BUFR). We are working on possibly enhancing this to provide more detail.

The file download already provides indicating the country. This only works for stations registered in OSCAR/Surface, so excludes yellow stations.

I hope this is useful, please let us know if you have any further questions.

with kind regards
Timo

Dear Timo,

In the meantime, I also discovered the Search function, something I hadn't noticed before.

I couldn't find a file download function in WDQMS.
I can only download the Time series, it doesn't have any meta data.

Thank you if there are further developments regarding data sources.

Dear George,

the download function is available from the bottom right of the map. For details you can also see the API documentation.

with kind regards,

Timo
