For Land based site entries in WMO OSCAR Surface, is the 'local ground (deprecated)' option used for the Type of reference surface? If so, why is the word 'deprecated' used?

The preferred entry is now "natural ground" with other options of artificial ground, deck etc.
The term 'deprecated' means it is no longer to be used, but that term is still available for historical purposes.
Typically a thing previously used is deprecated because it is—or is claimed or thought to be—inferior compared to other options now available.
