Interview with Marine Services Management
Interview at least one person responsible for managing your organization’s forecast services. Collect their input on what they think are your programme's greatest strengths and weaknesses and how they apply to marine services. Also introduce them to the WMO Strategy on Service Delivery and the Assessment of Service Delivery Progress Model. Use this as an opportunity to discuss the Assessment that you are conducting. Write and submit a short summary of the interview.
You should also take this opportunity to talk to management about upcoming customer interviews. As part of Lesson 4, you will be asked to interact with users of your marine forecast products to determine their needs. Your management should be made aware of this effort and they may want to be involved in this upcoming activity.
You may want to record your interview as reference for writing your summary.
Interview guidelines:
The following questions serve as a guideline for you interview with management. Please tailor your questions to your situation. Be sure to begin your interview by updating your management on your course progress. In particular, it would be very helpful and informative to share your Assessment of Service Delivery Progress Model spreadsheet with the person you are interviewing. This should provide a valuable focal point for discussing strengths and weaknesses of your service delivery.
- What do you think are our forecasting programme's greatest strengths? How do they apply to our marine services?
- What are our top three areas in need of improvement? How do they apply to marine services?
- How often does our organization reach out directly to our primary customers, the users of our forecasts and warnings?
- How well do we know our customers and their needs?
Follow up this question by briefing your management on how in Lesson 4, you are asked to develop a Customer Needs Survey and to interview customers in order to better assess their needs. Management may want to be involved in this process and assist in reaching out to customers.
Requirements:
- Include name and title of the person being interviewed
- Include a short summary, no more than 500 words, that includes their thoughts on your marine services strengths and weaknesses, what they would like to see changed, and their thoughts on the WMO Strategy on Service Delivery.
