Using Reports to monitor Learning Activity

A number of Course reports are available to the teacher in their course to help them track the progress of their students. In addition to the Activity and Course Completion reports mentioned in a previous book, there are also Activity Reports, Participation Reports and Course Logs.

1. Activity Reports

Course Activity Report

A course activity report, showing the number of views for each activity and resource (and any related blog entries), can be viewed in Administration > Course administration > Reports > Activity report.

Individual Activity Reports

If activity reports are enabled for a course in the course settings, each course participant can access reports of their contributions, such as forum posts or assignment submissions, logs and a statistics report.

Complete Report

The Complete Report helps instructors to view a detailed list of an individual student's last log and activity in the Activities and Resources in your Moodle course, including detailed contribution to any of the various types of course activities. The activities and resources are displayed in the same order as they are on the main course page. It resembles a student's portfolio of participation in the course.

2. Participation Reports

A participation report for a particular activity can be generated in Administration > Course administration > Reports > Course participation

This report:
— Generates a list of who has participated in a given activity, and how many times.
— Can be filtered by role, group, and action.
— Allows individuals or groups students (e.g. those who have not participated) to be easily messaged.
You can generate a participation report in Administration > Course administration > Reports > Course participation.

3. Logs

A log of activity in the course may be generated by a teacher in Administration> Course administration>Reports > Logs.
To generate a log, select any combination of group, student, date, activity, actions and level, then click the "Get these logs" button.

More information can be found on the MoodleDocs webpage on Tracking completion.
